Recent Election of New Elders and Deacons
After worship on Sunday April 30, a congregational meeting was held to elect the next group of Elders and Deacons. Murphy Halliburton stood in as Clerk pro-tem, for Clerk John Gunther Mohr and along with Pastor Margery Rossi convened the meeting and vote.
Murphy opened with a quick presentation of the role of Session, which is to be the group of active ruling elders, elected by the congregation, who make decisions for the running of the church and serve as spiritual leaders of the congregation. He also referenced the role of the Deacons – who are the ‘carers’ of the congregation: they aim to be in touch with all members and friends and pay attention to any help needed. They are also typically in charge of the “fun” and hospitality. At South they organize us to supply and serve for Fellowship Hours, and Soup Sundays and Movie Night!
Newly elected elders and deacons serve for period of 2 years, and are allowed to serve consecutive terms up to 6 years total. Each board is organized so that terms are staggered among members allowing for continuity and for new ideas to continuously cycle through. Terms begin on July 1 and finish on June 30th.
The 23/24 slate for session will include the following people
- John Gunther Mohr (renewing elder)
- Kris Kliemann (renewing elder)
- Lenore Person (renewing elder)
- Linda Jo Platt (renewing elder)
- Alex Navarrete (starting a new 2-year term)
- Cirstin Conneely (serving year 2 of her first 2-year term)
