Resucito! for Easter Sunday Service
Dear South Church Members,
Sending warm wishes to you all. I’d love to put together a video collage of us all singing Resucito! for this Sunday’s Easter Service. If you are able and willing, can you dive in with us? I ONLY NEED YOU TO SING THE CHORUS. Super Easy! Below are recording instructions. I’ve also attached sheet music and a playback track for you to listen to as you sing so we’re all in the same key and tempo. I’ve also recorded this little tutorial (if link doesn’t work please put https://youtu.be/br6HnWU5drg in your browser) on how the video should look. Please upload videos to this Google folder by Thursday evening.
MATERIALS:
- printed Sheet Music (attached)
- playback device (phone, iPod, walkman, etc) + headphones to play awesome MP3 (attached)
- video recording device (computer, phone, vid camera, etc) with either external or built-in microphone. Mac users can use Quicktime Player to make a new movie recording.
- quiet room with no background noise
AUDIO:
- If you have a nice mic to plug into your phone or computer, awesome. If not, that’s ok. Your phone/computer/tablet mic will be sufficient.
- Playback should be loud enough to hear while you are singing full-out.
VIDEO:
- Stand if you can (it’s better for singing)
- Record in LANDSCAPE position (wide, not tall)
- Have your face take up most of the screen — we don’t need to see torsos and feet, unless you want to have someone’s feet make a cameo in your video.
- Try to keep sheet music offscreen.
- Background: Notice what’s behind you in the recording. I’m fine with neutral backgrounds, but would also love backgrounds that represent you. Favorite framed painting? Dyed Easter Eggs? ’67 Mustang in your garage? TV playing CNN? (that’s a joke)
STEPS TO RECORD:
- Download sheet music and mp3 and practice.
- Warm up your voice before recording. Here’s an awesome warm-up video.(if link doesn’t work, please put this in your browser – https://youtu.be/vZVv_ecG5OM)
- Warm and tall vowels. Engage your core. Do some yawn-sighs.
- Set up playback device and headphones. Make sure playback of mp3 is loud enough to hear as you sing. If recording multiple people, then person with headphones must lead everyone (bob head, move arms)
- Set up camera.
- Press RECORD on camera. Breathe.
- Breathe again and then press PLAY on playback device.
- Do your awesome take.
- Stop camera.
- Save video with your name
- If you’re happy with it, upload to this Google folder.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
- YES to have other family members sing with you, even if just on certain parts of the song. Pets included!
- Don’t worry about what to do when you’re not singing. I will cut out the video and focus on soloists during the verses.
- Also, don’t worry about the extra time at the beginning and the end of the video recording. If you know how to trim videos, awesome, please do it. If not, I can do that on my end.
- Don’t worry about being perfect! That’s what auto-tune is for!
- Feel free to harmonize on the last two choruses. Feel free to ad-lib on the last chorus.
- Just have fun and enjoy the music. Emote emote emote! Sing sing sing!
I think that’s it! Please let me know at amir@amirpiano.com if you have any questions.
THANK YOU!!! And remember to have fun!
Truly best wishes,
Amir
