South Church and Friends/Midnight Run Christmas Eve Party On the Streets
Hello —
The Party on the Streets 2022 will be different from recent years: We are joining in on a Party that is being hosted by Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale. This means our prep work is a bit less than prior years – but we still need your help. Here’s how:
Bake Cookies: Each of our party guests will receive at least one baggie with an assortment of homemade cookies. We’d love to include some favorites from you. We ask that each baker provide at least 2 dozen cookies and we’ll put together the assortments. The deadline for cookies is Thursday December 22nd . Bring your cookies to my house (1 Hastings Landing, Hastings on Hudson NY) or if that is not convenient, you can take them to South Church (343 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry) and I will pick them up. (Let me know please if you choose to take them to Church). Late morning on the 23rd I’ll host a cookie bagging gathering at my house for 4 to 6 folks so that we can get the assortments done. Let me know if you’d like to be a part of that group.
Make Sandwiches: We will be providing ‘take away’ lunches for the party attendees. (Hitchcock will be providing hot food to be eaten on site of the party.) Ideally, we’ll have 80 to 100 sandwiches: I would like folks to volunteer to make 5 or 10 hearty sandwiches, that means I need up to 20 volunteers. Put the sammies in baggies and add a label indicating the type of sandwich inside. I like to make sandwiches that I enjoy eating (Turkey, provolone, lettuce, mustard on a hero!) If you need other guidance, see this link on Midnight Run site: https://midnightrun.org/sandwich.
The deadline for sandwiches is Thursday December 22nd. Bring them to my house (see address under cookies above) or if it is not convenient to bring to me, you can take them to South Church (343 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry) and I will pick them up. (Let me know please if you choose to take them to Church).
Donate $$ or purchase some needed supplies: If you can give us a monetary donation, that’s great. You may give me cash, or a check made out to Midnight Run, or you can go here and donate online. (If you donate online, it would be great if you could write me an email to let me know.) The money you donate will be used to purchase a variety of items, including small water bottles, colorful knitted caps, some hand towels and washcloths, a small Christmas tree and some lights and ornaments. All donations beyond purchases for the party that night will go to Midnight Run directly for general use throughout the year.
Wrap gifts: In the past, we’ve had an elaborate process for wrapping and packaging gifts. This year our gifts are the caps and hand towel/wash cloth combos mentioned above. And the plan is to wrap them all at the South Presbyterian Advent Party on December 4th. If you would like to join that Advent Party (it’s a blast – and everyone is invited), please email me and I’ll fill you in.
Go with us to the Streets on Saturday December 24: Leave Dobbs Ferry by 8:10 pm and return to Dobbs Ferry (or your own home) by … midnight or perhaps a little later. We only need a small crew to go down to the city this year, as several folks from Hitchcock Presbyterian will be going. We do not have the Midnight Run van this year – people will need to travel in their own cars. If you are interested in going down to the city on Christmas Eve, please let me know.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to be a part of this very fun Party. Please email me with your interest at kliemannkris@gmail.com and put “Midnight Run Party Volunteer” in the subject line.
Happy Holiday Season to all of you! I hope we have a chance to see each other in person during this lovely time!
